Arrange your own day of the dead costume this Halloween!
Creative Ingredients:

- Lace
- Hair Flowers
- Face Paint
- Hair Styling Products
- Suit & Hat
1. Find and Create a Classy Dress
The first piece of this puzzle is a classy beaded dress. Explore your local thrift stores for some vintage pieces. These dresses are ideal because you can rip and cut and sew as much as you want without spending a pretty penny. We found this beaded beauty at Goodwill for $12.00! I removed the shoulder pads, created a v-neck in the front and added stretchy fabric to the back. Don’t be afraid to update whatever you find!
2. Pick Out a Shawl to Drape Over Your Shoulders
The most elegant dresses include lace. Pick out a flowered lace to drape over your shoulders. Make sure to make a trip to the craft store when you have a coupon because it can get pricey.
3. Style Your Hair and Top it Off With a Flower
Many day of the dead costumes chose red roses to embellish their hair but we chose a black and white carnation type flower. It came pre-set with a built in hair clip. Layered under the flower is Taylor’s beautiful waves. Always have a stock pile of bobby pins ready for a big event like this!
4. Create a Sugar Skull on Your Face
Depending on your schedule for the night you have different choices for your face. There are no smudge face paint options compared to the conventional goop. We used the smudge free brand in black and white. To add an additional dimension you can find sparkled face stickers. They may be easier to use to get those crisp colored lines than bulky brushes.
5. Bring Along Your Partner
No costume is complete without a man on your arm! Spend a couple minutes to dress him up in a strapping suit and hat. Taylor dressed up her boyfriend Ross for her spicy night out to the bars!
